Thousands of devotees continued to arrive at Indrakeeladri for the darshan of Goddess Kanakadurga on the fifth day of Dasara on Monday. Though devotee-turnout took a nosedive after noon, the number swelled in the evening.
Till noon, around 60,000 devotees visited the temple but the temple witnessed a good turnout of devotees from all over the State by evening. “We expect around 80,000 before the close of the temple,” said officials.
Vijayawada (West) MLA Jaleel Khan presented silk robes to the presiding deity in the morning. Priests offered him traditional welcome and presented him ‘prasadam’ and photos of the deity. “The State Government should declare Dasara festival as State festival keeping in mind its popularity among the devotees all over the country”. Former minister Kolusu Parthasarathy also visited the temple along with his wife.
