VIJAYAWADA/GUNTUR:  Health minister Kamineni Srinivas has said that public awareness should be created on ‘Pentavalent Vaccine’, as one shot of it will provide protection to infants from five life-threatening diseases.
Speaking at the state-level Pentavalent vaccine awareness programme organised by the state Medical and Health Department in Vijayawada Friday, the minister said that the five-in-one ‘Pentavalent Vaccine’ protects children from diphtheria, tetanus, whooping cough, Hepatitis B and Haemophilus influenzae type B (Hib) which causes pneumonia and meningitis.
The health minister said the medical services of the staff in the cyclone-hit north Coastal Andhra were remarkable.
Commissioner of Health & Family Welfare & mission director Saurabh Gaur said that Pentavalent Vaccine would be introduced in eight states, including Andhra Pradesh, by January next year. “Special training has been given to volunteers by the specialists on administering of vaccine apart from the ground-level training to the Anganwadi workers, medical staff, Asha workers and others for better results,” he added.
Later, the health minister participated in the regional conference organised by the AP Medical Services and Infrastructure Development Corporation on ‘Sanitation and security levels in the government hospitals’ at Guntur Medical College.
Kamineni Srinivas asked the officials to provide special shelters for the visitors at the hospitals. Special committees with the representation of voluntary organisations would be constituted for the development of hospitalst. Vacant posts at hospitals would be filled soon, he added.

Cong Leaders Pay Tributes to Indira Gandhi

VIJAYAWADA: The city Congress leaders fondly remembered former prime minister Indira Gandhi on her 30th death anniversary here Friday.
Former minister Devineni Rajashekar (Nehru) paid rich tributes to the statue of Indira Gandhi at Sikhamani Centre and praised her for her efforts to keep the nation united. Youth Congress leader Devineni Avinash and Congress senior leader Kadiyala Buchi Babu were present. Congress leaders paid floral tributes to the former prime minister at Andhra Ratna Bhavan.
The Congress leaders will interact with the people from November 1 to 19 to know the problems they were facing and will also demand the government to address their issues immediately, former MLA Malladi Vishnu said.

Riverbank villagers gear up for a fight

VIJAYAWADA: The agricultural fields of Rayapudi village, located on the right bank of river Krishna, remain green for nearly 345 days a year. Farmers grow as many as 47 varieties of crops, including vegetables, paddy, sugarcane, papaya, citrus fruits and banana, thanks to the perennial availability of water. It takes only 20 days of keeping the land fallow for it to be re-energised for tilling purposes. No wonder then, that the farmers here are harbouring resentment against the government for listing their village for land pooling for the development of the new capital city.

Interestingly, most farmers are ardent followers of ruling Telugu Desam Party, but are irked with chief minister N Chandrababu Naidu for proposing to take over their lands. And they are not alone in their anger. Famers from other riverbank villages such as Uddandarayunipalem, Malkapuram, Mandadam and Tallayapalem are all agitated over the government's move.

Their main contention is that they cultivate crops for more than 11 months a year and a payment of Rs 25,000 as compensation per acre is very meagre. "We earn not less than Rs 1 lakh even on lease as most of the lands are fertile and yield good production," said Puvvada Ganesh, a farmer.

What also seems to be fuelling their anger is the government's inability to realize its loan waiver promise. "How can anyone believe the government's words after it failed to implement the loan waiver scheme? How can the chief minister generate revenue to develop our lands when he cannot do so for loan waiver," wondered local TDP strongman Mallela Harindranath Chowdary.

He added that considering the past experiences of other states, there was no chance of the Centre extending a huge financial package to the state. "Naidu has done little to enhance his image at the Centre and even failed to convince the RBI to implement the loan waiver," he said.

Farmers of these villages have now decided to fight for their lands, even if it means approaching the courts. They argue that they never wanted the capital city to come up in their neighbourhood and are quite happy with agriculture.

Movie Review: CURRENT THEEGA

Movie Review: CURRENT THEEGA

Movie Review: CURRENT THEEGA (By Hapra)

Rating: 2.5/5

Cast: Manoj, Jagapathi Babu, Rakul Preet, Sunny Leone and thers

Cinematogrpaher: Satish Muthyala

Music: Achhu

Dialogues: Kishore Tirumala

Screenplay-Direction: G Nageshwar Reddy

Producer: 24 Frames Films Factory

Release date: 31st October, 2014

Once again, Manchu Manoj started showing his energy if we have to go by the trailers of ‘Current Theega’. As the film happens to be remake of a well-run Tamil flick ‘Varuthapadatha Valibar Sangam’, there are huge expectations. Let us see how it is faring.

The CONTENT

Sivaramaraju (Jagapathi Babu) gets arrested by police for killing his younger daughter and the guy who loved her for eloping. The narrative goes into flash back mode explaining that Sivaramaraju is challenged by a biggie (Supreet) about one of his daughter eloping. Raju (Manoj) is a roam-free workless guy wandering in the village and trying to flatter Sunny (Sunny Leone) teacher. He uses college student Kavitha (Rakul Preet Singh) as his courier. As Sunny stuns him with a wedding card, at the same time Raju saves Kavitha from goons. Finally Raju and Kavitha fall for each other. So, what did they do to get married? Why did Sivaramaraju killed them? That’s the climax part for you.

The EFFORT :

On-Screen:

Manchu Manoj is as usual rocking with loads of energy. He reduced base in his voice this time and tried to act subtle. But in emotional scenes, Manoj faltered again. And he went overboard in action sequences though his fighting skills are appreciable.

Rakul Preet is quite beautiful though she needs to improvise her acting a lot. Being a Miss India finalist, she knows where to tweak her glamour and woo audiences. Looking quite in college girl attire, she has outshined sexy Sunny Leone too. The former adult star has however showcased her talent in a song and then vanished. Probably masses will love her curvy moves, which otherwise do nothing new. Sunny is horrible with acting in her scenes anyway.

Jagapathi Babu looks rugged and this time he delivers villainy, innocence and comedy mixed together. But it looks like such roles are becoming a routine for him. ‘30 years industry’ Prithvi tried to invoke many laughs but succeeded partially. With no good dialogues written for him, how could he make audiences bump out of set with bursting laughs?

Burning Star Sampoornesh Babu appears for one scene, and he delivers his popular ‘dhairyam’ dialogue to bring the roof down to heavy laughs

Rest actors like Vennela Kishore, Tagubothu Ramesh, Dhanraj, Pavitra Lokesh, Supreet (Katraj) and all look regular.

Off-Screen:

Director G Nageshwar Reddy is usual with his conceiving of scenes as screenplay looks pretty flat. For a wafer thin and predictable line like this, maybe he should have fastened the narrative. He extracted some good performances within the boundaries set by the story. If ingredients are poor, no cook could make a delicious meal.

Satish Muthyala’s cinematography attracts us sometimes. He is pretty good in etching colorful visuals with tight blocks and simply lit backgrounds. Manchu Manoj rocks again as fight master and he composed every fight with huge intensity. Achu’s songs are decent, while background score should have been better. This time he reduced regular rock-guitar elements and focused on melody based themes.

The PLUSES:

·         Manchu Manoj’s Energy

·         Jagapathi Babu

·         First Half Comedy

·         Sunny’s Dance Number (For Masses)

The MINUSES:

·         Predictable Narration

·         Simple Scenes

·         Second Half And Climax

BREAKDOWN:

Story wise there is nothing to boast about Current Theega as it’s very simple and thin. But such scripts should be dealt with terrific screenplay and loads of new scenes. Probably Nageshwar Reddy repeated what is there in the Tamil movie and then Manoj has gone overboard to make huge comedy based on dialogues. But the efforts look clichéd as they looked regular. There is no single moment we feel freshness and exciting, except occasional laughs.

Movie starts interestingly as it introduced it key characters like Jagapathi Babu, Manoj, Sunny Leone and Rakul Preet Singh. Loaded with comic dialogues all the way, first half of the movie entertains with many satires, preaching and one-liner punches from Manoj. At the same time, Sunny’s glamour for a while and Rakul Preet’s cute looks for rest of time fill the space. Interval is no mind blowing but well. Loaded with all lighter moments, one may anticipate a tight and interesting second half. Except one duet, rest songs and scenes let you down in second half as film gets predictable and easy to guess. Some messages are delivered, but they need more exaggeration to make audiences feel it.

Other than Manoj’s energetic fights, rest of the film is a lighter vein popcorn comedy with regular story and known setup. As the season happens to be good-time for ‘comedy’ flicks that defy all logics, Current Theega might run for a while until next film arrives. For audiences waiting for something new, exciting and surprising, you’ve to continue the wait.

The FINISHING Line: Current Theega with power cuts and low voltage.

Decision emerges from marathon Cabinet meet; 30,000 acres identified across 17 villages. He said the 30,000 acres would be divided into six sectors and the farmers would be given 1,000 yards of fully developed land with infrastructure for every one acre they parted.

The new capital of Andhra Pradesh would come up in Guntur district with the government identifying 30,000 acres across 17 villages for building the required infrastructure for various public utilities, besides the Secretariat and the Assembly.
The issue was discussed at a marathon Cabinet meeting after which the Cabinet sub-committee on land pooling met and decided the modalities.
Briefing reporters later, Andhra Pradesh Agriculture Minister P. Pulla Rao said the farmers in 14 villages of Tullur and three villages of Managalgiri mandals would be convinced and a system of land pooling would be adopted for taking the land. He also announced that the Vijayawada-Guntur-Tenali-Mangalagiri urban body would be abolished and a new Capital Region Development Authority would be constituted.
He said that from Friday the process of convincing farmers would start and pooling would be completed in nine months. The government would pay Rs. 25,000 per acre per year for 10 years to each farmer who parted with his land. There would be a five per cent increase every year and by the end a decade the amount would be Rs. 37,500. Nearly 20 per cent of the 30,000 acres might be government land, he added.
‘Farmers stand to gain’
He said the 30,000 acres would be divided into six sectors and the farmers would be given 1,000 yards of fully developed land with infrastructure for every one acre they parted. He said the farmers would be allotted that land through lottery system.
Replying to a question, he said the value of those lands would further increase in future and benefit the farmers. The Minister said the cooperation of farmers and people was needed to build the new capital. He said that after developing the core area, other new areas would come up on a total of 60,000 acres or one lakh acres in the new capital.
He said the Chief Minister was keen that not a single tmcft should go waste into the sea and suggested that an action plan be drawn up for creating new ayacut in that region for another three lakh acres.
Irrigation Minister Devineni Uma Maheswar Rao said the people of that region were indebted selecting the region around the Krishna for locating the capital and appealed to everyone to cooperate.
The 14 villages in Tullur mandal are: Tullur, Borupalem, Nelapadu, Nekkalu, Shakamooru, Vangadam, Malkapuram, Velagapudi, Modalingapalem, Uddandarayapalem, Lingayapalem, Rayathuri, Apparaju Palem and Dondapadu. The three villages of Managlagiri are Neerukonda, Nidamarru and Kooragallu.

MLA’s son held, released on bail

Bonda Siddharth (Siddhu), son of MLA Bonda Umamaheswara Rao, along with friend Sivaram was arrested by Yadlapadu police in the case relating to accident on national highway on Wednesday. They were produced before the local court at Chilakaluripet and later released on bail.
Police charged Siddharth with causing death of an engineering student Vijay Nagendra, by his negligent driving and slapped cases under sections 304 (A) and 337 IPC.
The incident took place on October 26 at Timmapuram on Guntur-Chilakaluripet national highway. Siddhu and his friends were taking part in a car race in two SUVs, a Toyota Fortuner and a Skoda when the cars crashed into each other while trying to avoid a lorry. The ghastly mishap left their friend Nagendra dead and a few others injured.
The vehicles were flung into the air and fell into a roadside trench killing Nagendra, the Yedlapadu police said. The duo was produced in a local court. Meanwhile, in a bid to step up patrolling on national highways, the Guntur police have acquired two additional rakshak jeeps.

Kin of Missing Youth State Protest

VIJAYAWADA: Parents and relatives of Fayaz Ahmed (17), who went missing after jumping into Bandar Canal, staged a protest on Bandar Road at Chennupati Petrol Bunk in the city Wednesday.
The police raided a park located at Pitchiah Street, near Bandar Canal, as about 20 persons were playing cards there. Upon noticing them, the gamblers took to their heels. Fayaz was one of the four who jumped into the canal and is yet to be traced.
Demanding that the police find out the whereabouts of Fayaz, his relatives staged a protest.

Rich youngsters set in ‘deadly’ trend

The children of opulent families are setting in a new ‘deadly’ culture in Vijayawada region. Keen on exhibiting their money and political clout, they are using their swanky cars and mobikes to indulge in the ‘mindless’ road races.
Moving around at break-neck speed in their vehicles on forlorn roads has become a passion among the ‘spoilt brats’.

The improper vigil on express and highways are also emboldening them in resorting to races and the Vijayawada-Chilakaluripeta stretch is turning as the hot favourite of these brats.

The Sunday night incident involving Vijayawada (Central) MLA Bonda Umamaheswara Rao’s son Bonda Siddharth saw an engineering student breathing his last in the mad race.

Role of parents

The Guntur police booked a case under 304A of IPC against Mr. Siddharth. Says Sudheekshan Foundation Chairperson Ch. Vimala: “Generally, we tend to blame the police department for the road mishaps. But, the role of the parents cannot be ignored. They don’t keep a vigil on their children after they gift a bike or car to them. They should guide and counsel their children on the usage of the machines on a daily basis”.

More bikes

According to auto industry sources there are more than 250 bikes powered with 200cc criss-crossing the city thoroughfares regularly. “There are families which don’t mind spending over Rs. 1.5 lakh on a premium bike for their children,” says vehicle financier.

According to police sources, there are no stringent laws that prohibit youngsters from racing. Even the existing laws allow the violators to escape with a meager punishment of a fine up to Rs. 5,000 or imprisonment up to two years.

Need for change

“We need to amend IPC to suit the changing needs,” says Indian Association of Lawyers State general secretary Chalasani Ajay Kumar.
The racing menace which was hitherto limited to Hyderabad is making its presence felt in Vijayawada region.

The racers preferred the stretches of Jubilee Hills, Madhapur, Begumpet, Banjara Hills and Raj Bhavan in Hyderabad for thrills and frills.
But after the installationof CCTV cameras and extra vigil, they moved on to the Outer Ring Road (ORR), which is the present destination of racing, the police say.

A big relief for builders

Price of sand will come down with reopening of sand reaches. Construction activity has almost come to a standstill in the city with acute shortage of sand and escalation in prices in the district. The sand, normally, used to be available in a price range of Rs.3,000 and Rs. 5,000 per lorry.
The construction industry sees a ray of hope with reopening of sand reaches in the State. The builders feel that sand mining would bring a relief from sand prices that went through the roof in recent past.
With meagre supplies from two sand reaches in the district, sand price hovered between Rs. 12,000 and Rs. 13,000 per lorry in market. The price has, now, come down to Rs. 7,000 with reopening of the sand reaches.
Confederation of Real Estate Developers’ Associations of India (CREDAI) Vijayawada chapter president Y.V. Ramana Rao feels that normalcy would restore by the end of November.
Unlike past, the sand prices may not to rise in unscientific manner as the government is fixing the price. The prices would also stabilise once all the reaches start functioning, he opines.
Construction activity has almost come to a standstill in the city with acute shortage of sand and escalation in prices in the district. The sand, normally, used to be available in a price range of Rs.3,000 and Rs. 5,000 per lorry.
But, the prices steeply rose due to acute shortage and touched Rs. 33,000 per 20 tonnes.
CREDAI State president A. Siva Reddy says there are more than 1,000 builders across the State, who are feeling the pinch of sand scarcity and escalating prices. About 1,000 lorries of sand is required every day to keep the construction activity going on. But, the activity has come down 50 per cent due to sand scarcity. Now, sand availability is expected to boost the construction activity, he says.
The builders have taken up about 200 to 300 projects in the city and its outskirts. Each project requires, on average, one lorry of eight tonnes. Non-availability of sand almost pushed the industry into doldrums.
All quarries were closed, except two reaches out of the 72, in the district following an order by the High Court in 2012-13. The sand prices were on rise since then, Mr. Ramana Rao said.
