VIJAYAWADA:  The Brahmaiah Lingam Tank located at Chikkavaram village, 12 km away from Gannavaram on the Nuzvid-Gannavaram Road in Krishna district, is calling for attention of the Tourism Department as ideal for being developed as a tourist spot. Surrounded by hills in serene environs, the tank is quite an attraction for local people. It assumes significance in the wake of the government announcing Vijayawada and its surroundings as the capital region. Even irrigation minister
Devineni Umamaheswara Rao announced that the tank would be developed as a tourist spot on the lines of Hussain Sagar lake.
“The tank is a boon for the people of neighbouring villages. Besides catering to the irrigation needs, it also serves as a picnic spot,” said B Anjaneyulu, a farmer belonging to Chikkavaram.
Six years ago, officials of the Tourism Department came up with proposals for developing the tank as a tourist spot by providing all facilities but they are gathering dust.
Ironically, the tank does not find a place in the Mega Tourism Circuit Development plan prepared by the government after bifurcation of the state.
“About `60 crore has been sanctioned for developing the Mega Tourism Circuit in Krishna district and various places of importance like Kondapalli, Movva and Atapaka have been included in the circuit. But as of now there is no mention of the Brahmaiah Lingam tank in it,” said APTDC divisional manager T Baboji.
