VIJAYAWADA: Activists of the Aam Aadmi Party (AAP) staged a silent protest at the government general hospital in Hanumanpet area of the city Thursday demanding that the state government take steps to improve the basic amenities at the hospital. The agitators particularly demanded increase in the number of ventilators at the hospital.
Speaking on the occasion, AAP Krishna district coordinator P Venkata Rama Rao said thousands of patients visit the hospital for treatment to various ailments but the government was not bothered to maintain cleanliness and provide better amenities. The situation at the hospital was pathetic, to say the least, he added.
“Patients are facing a lot of problems due to the lack of drinking water facility and insanitary conditions,” the AAP leader said. Stating that the government was planning to set up superspecialty hospitals in the cities by neglecting the existing government hospitals where a lot of irregularities were taking place, he said “The hospital staff especially those in the maternity ward are demanding bribe from the patients apart from allotting a single bed to two patients.”
AAP city leader, Har Mahendra Singh Sahani claimed that the authorities are not even responding to the complaints made by the patients. “The hospital is not in a position to provide proper medication for the patients in case of emergency as there is a shortage of ventilators and medicines at the dispensary,” he pointed out.
He demanded that the government immediately respond to the problems being faced by the patients in the hospital.
AAP city secretary B Manju Latha, Guntur district incharge Veera Vara Prasad and activists from Prakasam, Kurnool and Nellore districts participated in the protest.
