VIJAYAWADA: The Gas Authority of India Limited (GAIL) on Tuesday asked prospective land buyers in Krishna district to keep in mind the gas pipelines running through the district as permission will not be granted for any construction in its vicinity.
GAIL said pipelines carrying different petroleum products from KG Basin pass through 51 villages spread over 10 mandals in the district. Addressing village-level government officials here, GAIL chief manager Singhal said they will not allow any structure along the pipeline networks in view of the safety of people and the infrastructure.
"As per legislation passed in 1962, no structure will be allowed close to the pipeline network. In fact, we have kept signboards near the pipelines," Singhal explained, adding that prospective buyers should inspect the pipeline network areas before going ahead with the deal.
The pipelines pass through Nuzividu, Mailavaram, Nandigama, G Konduru, Kanchikacherla and Ibrahimpatnam mandals. Additional joint collector BL Chennakesava Rao said criminal cases will be booked against people who dismantle the signboards. "We spend close to Rs 1,500 crore annually to maintain safety standards. However, we cannot achieve 100 per cent results without the support of people and field staff," Singhal added.
