GUNTUR: A couple of hours after chief minister N Chandrababu Naidu appealed to farmers to part with their land for the capital city, a group of farmers in Nelapadu and Inavolu villages reportedly approached the local sarpanches and expressed their willingness to participate in the land pooling scheme.
According to sources, about 200 farmers met Nelapadu sarpanch, Dhanekula Subba Rao, on Saturday and said they would part with their land for the capital. "We have faith in the chief minister that he will keep up his word on transforming our lives," said M Venkateswara Rao, a farmer.
While Nepaladu village has about 1,300 acres of cultivable land, Inavolu has about 1,100 acres. "Farmers from many villages are coming forward to give their lands and a clear picture will emerge in the next few days," Guntur revenue divisional officer Bhaskara Naidu told TOI. He, however, said officials are not insisting on any undertakings from the farmers as of now.
