The survey is aimed at identifying illegal structures that have come up in the corporation limits between June 2011 and October 2014
The Vijayawada Municipal Corporation (VMC), in association with a private organisation, is conducting a Geographic Information System-aided survey to identify unauthorised structures that have come up in the corporation limits since June 2011.
The corporation in the past had conducted a survey of all structures that existed in its limits till 2011, and door numbers were allotted accordingly. The survey is being taken afresh further to upgrading its data and integrating it with building plans that were approved in the last couple of years.
“The objective of the exercise is to identify structures and open plots and check if the buildings were constructed in accordance with approved plans. Later, new door numbers will be allotted. From June 2011 to October 2014, more than 9,000 applications were filed for building plan approvals, and this survey will help in identifying irregularities. The authorities will make a note of unauthorised structures, if any,” VMC Commissioner C. Hari Kiran said.
The survey will be completed in a fortnight. After preparation of data, the authorities will call for objections from property owners. In case of irregularities, officials will initiate action accordingly, he added.
In addition, the survey will also help in checking occupancy like commercial or residential, besides assessing the property tax of the existing structures. Based on the accumulated data, the authorities can approach the government seeking permission to revise tax, he added.
