Vehicle owners planning to register their new vehicle or those aspiring for a driving licence will now have to produce Aadhaar cards at the respective Regional Transport Offices as the Transport Department is linking the details of vehicle owners and driving licence holders with Aadhaar cards from October 4 in the city.
The initiative is being taken up under the Andhra Pradesh State Resident Hub pilot project, which will link details pertaining to different departments with Aadhaar cards in a phased manner across the State. With regard to the Transport Department, the initiative is being launched on October 4 and new vehicle owners, driving licence aspirants’ will have to produce Aadhaar cards, failing which authorities will not register the vehicle or issue licence, according to Ch. This is applicable even for those filling their applications for driving licence and they need to furnish the details in the online form for booking driving test slots. In the first phase, the linkage is restricted to new vehicle registration and driving licence.
Later, it would be extended to other transactions such as renewal of fitness certificates, payment of taxes etc and the software deployed by the department had already been upgraded to facilitate the linkage with Aadhaar cards, he said.
